Green Spaces

GAVA supports resident leadership and networking to improve and enhance parks, trails, greenbelts and other public green spaces in our neighborhoods of focus. We work with resident-led park and creek adopters to advocate for equitable funding, policy, and program implementation in their public parks, school parks, and other green spaces. Our past collaborations with Austin Interfaith and Austin Parks Foundation have led to millions of dollars in increased investments in South and Southeast Austin parks. In 2021, we hope to bring park and creek adoption teams together again to exchange information and resources and continue to advocate for equitable investments in the Eastern Crescent!

Residents can get involved if they are currently a park or creek adopter or would like to bring some sort of programming to their local neighborhood park/green space.

  • Institutional stakeholders can get involved by providing physical activity classes in public green spaces or provide certification pathways for residents to teach physical activity classes in green spaces.
